When Your Child Notices Their Family Is Different

Around eight, your child will notice that their family is different from their friends’ families, so be ready for it.

A two-minute read, three things to try, for ages 7 to 11.

Where to start

  • Take what your child has noticed seriously, without making it a verdict on the family.
  • Tell your child: “Our family is different in some ways. It’s also a family that loves you.”
  • Look for a local young carers’ group, which brings together children from families like yours.

The rest of the tip, and why it works, is in the library.
