The Game That Runs Past Midnight

For most teenagers gaming is where their friends are, so agree the end of the night with him.

A two-minute read, three things to try, for ages 13 to 18.

Where to start

  • Agree the finish time with him on a weekend afternoon when nobody is cross.
  • If gaming is costing him school, sleep or friends, talk to his school and your GP.
  • If he hits or threatens anyone when the game stops, leave the room, and if that doesn’t make everyone safe, don’t wait. Call 999. Help is free and available at any hour.

The rest of the tip, with more to try and why it works, is in the library.

It goes with

  • What Screen Time Actually Is. For parents who feel they have lost the argument about screens.
  • Screen Time. For parents who have lost the argument about screen hours, and suspect it was never quite the right argument to have.

The first chapter you open here is free to read in full.
