A First Heartbreak

A first heartbreak is real grief, so take it seriously.

A two-minute read, three things to try, for ages 13 to 18.

Where to start

  • Acknowledge the loss: “That was someone who mattered to you. It’s okay for it to hurt.”
  • Don’t minimise it, and don’t tell your teenager they’ll feel better soon.
  • Be reliably there: a walk together, the supper they liked at eight.

The rest of the tip, and why it works, is in the library.
