When the New Partner Meets Your Child
Before your child meets a new partner, tell them plainly who this person is, and keep the first meeting short.
A two-minute read, three things to try, for ages 5 to 13.
Where to start
- Tell your child about your new partner briefly, a few days before they meet.
- Say: “You don’t have to like him today.”
- Keep it to forty-five minutes in a park, not two hours at a restaurant.
The rest of the tip, and why it works, is in the library.
