A record of what happened

The first page of A record of what happened

A dated log of what happened, in your child’s words, with who saw it; and a page for what you told the school, what they said they would do and when you will speak again.

It goes with When Your Child Is Being Bullied.

How it helps

If your child is being bullied, a dated record in their words, with who saw it, gives the school what it needs to act. The second page keeps track of what the school said it would do, so nothing is lost between calls.

How to use it

  1. Write down what happened as soon as you can after your child tells you, in their words where you can. If they have been hurt or threatened, or you’re worried about their safety, don’t question them further: ask for the designated safeguarding lead that day.
  2. Keep screenshots of messages and posts, and don’t delete them. Never screenshot a sexual image of a child, even to give it to the school: leave it where it is, and tell the designated safeguarding lead that day.
  3. Use the second page for every call or meeting with the school: who you spoke to, what they said they would do, and when you’ll speak again.
  4. After each call, send a short email saying what you agreed. If nothing has changed by that date, write to the headteacher.

How to print it

Print it at home on A4, at actual size (100%) in the print settings. Print each page on one side of the paper. It reads as well in black and white as in colour.
