How it helps

When your child comes home upset about a friend, a test or a teacher, the first thing you say often decides whether they tell you more. Each card has a first sentence, from a quick tip in the library, that keeps the conversation open.

How to use it

  1. Cut out the eight cards. Each names the quick tip it comes from, which has the rest.
  2. Choose the one or two that fit this term, such as Sunday evenings or results day, and keep them where you’ll see them.
  3. Say the sentence in your own voice, and follow the line beneath it.
  4. After that, listen more than you speak.

How to print it

Print it at home on A4, at actual size (100%) in the print settings. Cut the cards out along the dashed lines. It reads as well in black and white as in colour.
